The Beauty and Utility of Poetry -Dave Neita

Most times we say things like I dont like this or that, but it makes a whole lot of difference if we are involved in someway or the other. The passion or interest just gets boosted. I remember a couple years ago, I wouldnt be caught watching Formula One, but I had a friend then who couldnt go a moment without keeping tabs on the grand prix and before you know it, it began to rub off on me. Now I am not a huge fan of poetry but I met Dr David for the first time two years ago and it was quite an interesting experience. Being a career driven person with so much determination to suceed, once I identify a person who I think has reached a height I aim to be, I boldly go up to them and strike a conversation with them. Meeting David, was one of such moments and he's quite an interesting person to speak to and he motivated me in so many ways. While speaking to him, he emphasised on the power of networking and right there,He sent me invites to listen to notable individuals which held at the prestigious London School Of Economics and actually till date I still get invited. But I must say, the conferences had a huge difference on my perception of life and success and has been a contributing factor positively to most of the things I do. Tell me about"Iron sharpens Iron" hahaha. David was however invited to the TED talk and he delivered his poetry. As I listened, I smiled, at some point it left me reasoning about the words he spoke, at other times I laughed but most importantly I enjoyed Poetry, which I never knew I could enjoy. I have attached the link here, and I hope you enjoy listening to David

Being Dad!

Today we celebrate the fathers who have discovered the powers of their knees and not their fists, fathers who are wise enough to realize that a mans greatness does not depend on the number of women he has conquered but the many battles he has conquered to ensure that the center holds in the family for which he is responsible, by ensuring that respect and love are the bedrock of stability in the home rather than fear and torment because he is considered a tyrant by the same people, whom he is expected to love and protect.

We celebrate wise men who have the tedious task of prioritizing between cash in the bank and the investment in the lives of his family members which has no depreciating coefficient.

Men who have realized that the independent variable in their lives is the one who was before the world began and knows that  everything else is a dependent variable. I call them the men who have realized that the constant ' K' is always constant in maths, but in our lives, the only constant 'K' is God.

I celebrate men who are not intimidated to empower the women in their lives because they have realized that they both belong to same team and together they win.

Men who have realized that nothing is forever and no matter how 'Dapper', 'Loaded' 'Brainy' and 'Influential' they might think they are, it could all change in a moment. And we brought nothing into this world and will take nothing as we exit.

Men who realize that women are 'Different' not 'Difficult' and are able to communicate to this difference and stir up the best in their homes.

And best of all I celebrate the 'REAL' men who are not all these but are working daily to be the best of what they have been created to be, fulfilling Gods purpose.
God says of Abraham, "I know he will raise his children to fear me". What will be said of you?

Happy Fathers Day xoxo

10 Min Abs Workout

I am very good with routine, however due to my schedule, sometimes it just seems impossible. With my morning runs however, I am quite good and I have really improved with my diet which really amazes me. In April, I needed to do more work on my abs and thighs and I felt my morning run alone was not giving me the desired effect, so I got a personal trainer who was really good. I however have this critical brother and he made me stop lol! He goes "I cant believe you have got all these gadgets and cant download a plan, why spend money"? Ouch! sorry to all the personal trainers out there. I still say, you do a fabulous job even though I took sides with my brother lol! So I started my DIY abs work out via other means. I decided to check youtube for something quick and different, and I found this which is quite fabulous. It looks easy but trust me its anything but easy. Have a fab weekend guys, remember we celebrate the Fathers tomorrow, Yipee!

Commit To It!

I read a couple of devotionals, but of the lot, United Christians Broadcasters devotional are just the 'pick of the crop' for me. They bring Gods word is such real life scenarios that Christians and even non Christians can identify with. The message of God indeed needs to be shed with so much ease and warmth and this is what I love the most about the devotional. May today's word bless you indeed!

"I have opened my mouth to the Lord and I cannot go back"...Judges 11: 35

After arriving in the New World, the Spanish explorer, Cortez, took his crew off their ships and set the ships on fire as the sailors watched in confusion and horror. By that one act, Cortez sealed their commitment to explore new territory and ensured they’d never give in or go back. Guess what? Having no alternative clears your perception, does away with procrastination, and helps you make up your mind. When you’re in a corner, you learn to reach deeper inside yourself, and in so doing you discover God-given strengths you never knew existed. When you’re up against a deadline, it releases a creative flow within you. For example, nothing increases your commitment like the threat of failure or the risk of embarrassment. In The Tyranny of E-mail, John Freeman says, ‘Attention is one of the most valuable modern resources. If we waste it on frivolous communication, we will have nothing left when we really need it.’ Distractions drain your energy, blur your focus, and disrupt your momentum. Projects fail, companies collapse, and marriages are damaged because of the way distractions deplete our resources and destroy our relationships. Don’t get to the end of your life only to look back and discover you forfeited things which were truly significant, to make way for things that added nothing of value. Jephthah made a vow to God that resulted in great victory for Israel, and led to his promotion as their leader.   It’s a commitment you need to make today: ‘I have opened my mouth unto the Lord, and I cannot go back.’(ucb.co.uk)

Be Inspired...

I watched Harriette Thompson as she completed the marathon and all I could say as I stayed glued to the Tv set was Wow! Indeed Nothing can limit us, except the limits we build around our perception of who we are-EllyEleanor

On Sunday morning, Harriette Thompson, the 91-year-old marathoner, finished the Rock ’n’ Roll San Diego Marathon in 7:07:42, the fastest time on record by a woman age 90 or older.
“I feel wonderful,” Thompson told Runner's World Newswire. “I feel very relieved and I feel very anxious to take a shower and then fall into bed.”
Thompson said she wasn’t able to train as much as she would have liked because she recently finished up radiation treatment to treat squamous cell carcinoma on her legs, but she surprised herself.
“I found that the first 13 miles were very easy and then around mile 17 it became a little harder,” she said. “I’m almost as surprised as everybody else.”
Thompson's time was well under the previous fastest time in the women's 90-and-over division, 8:53:08, run by Mavis Lindgren at the 1997 Portland Marathon. The oldest female marathon finisher on record is Gladys Burrill, who ran the 2010 Honolulu Marathon in 9:53:16 at the age of 92.
Thompson’s brother passed away in February from lymphoma, and since her marathon debut at 76, Thompson has run every year on behalf of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and Team In Training, generating more than $90,000.
“All I do is write a letter and [my friends] are all very generous,” she said.
Thompson says she’s looking forward to taking a shower and getting a good night’s rest. Monday, she will celebrate her 67th wedding anniversary with her husband, Sydnor, 90, back in North Carolina.
Thompson said that, when she exercises, she just feels better. Her words of wisdom for other runners? “Sleep a lot and drink a lot of water.”
Thompson said she doesn’t think age should be a barrier for beginning exercise.
“You’re never too old to do it,” she said. “I started my first marathon at 76.”
When asked if she has any other marathons planned, Thompson says she’ll be back in San Diego next year “if I’m still here.”
“I’ll try and do better next year and be in better shape,” she said. (http://www.runnersworld.com/general-interest/91-year-old-finishes-san-diego-marathon)
