There's hope..

 As we approach the end of the year, it is possible to feel a bit depressed if we review our achievements against our set targets and we come to the realisation that we are still far off.

Today however, I am reminding you that there's hope. Because you are breathing & living. And if you believe in God, the assurance we have is that "Faithful is He who has called us, who also will do it" 1Thess 5:24.

Stay in lane

 For the past 10 weeks, I have had to travel to work via the M20 which is currently undergoing repairs until spring of 2025. This has meant that the journey has been quite painful. Despite early starts, I am always met with depressing gridlock. In a bid to beat traffic and ensure that I arrive work on time, I resort to switching lanes like every other driver. The interesting bit is that one moment, one lane seems to be moving quite well and I switch and after several seconds we come to a halt and the lane I was previously in tends to be the better options. All these switching between lanes just end up increasing anxiety and exacerbating anger.

One day as I was going at snail speed contemplating switching lanes, I began to reflect and these were my thoughts:

1. How often do we get distracted by the latest trends? Be it in our careers, fashion, decisions regarding where to live, work, holiday, business to embark upon etc. We keep switching from one path to the other in a bid to reach a 'destination' whilst forgetting to enjoy the journey. We also forget that we are called to different paths and what works for A might not necessarily work for B. There is power in understanding your God given vision for your life. Every now & then, change will be required but that change should not be impulsive but after research & good counsel.

2. Sometimes what we require is not change but 'rest'. Switching lanes did not necessarily mean that I got to work early but it just increased my anxiety. Today, the word for you might just be rest.... you are doing well under the circumstance, now rest...

3. Comparison is the thief of joy; Why bother how fast others are moving? Your destinations are different as well as your purpose. Focus on what is most important; your self development.

Activity, Productivity or Just Nothing...

We have been wired to think that activity is a good thing. Most times we seek validation in productivity. We feel guilty for doing nothing and will rather do something no matter how meaningless it might be than be seen to do nothing. It is the same as being with someone in the room and saying nothing. Sometimes that silence feels so awkward...      

                                                                         

But you know what, doing nothing is actually a good thing....

Silence should not be awkward....

Let this be the year, that you appreciate rest, let this be the year that you appreciate the quietness in the room...

 I follow very few people on social media. And before I follow anyone, they have to be sensible or funny! Adam Grant, is one person I have followed on social media and it is always refreshing reading from him. This is his perspective on self worth which I totally agree with.

A lot is going on in our world today. The truth is that injustice is not novel to our society. From prehistoric times, humans have done evil and every man has the capacity to do evil.
A lot of times, we sit on the sidelines and watch, because we think we are not directly affected or sometimes we deliberately feign ignorance because its the lazy and easy way out, sometimes for selfish reasons or the fear of "not being accepted". However if we continue to keep quiet, just very soon, the same evil will be at our doorsteps and we will have nowhere to run...

No society, organisation or even family has ever prospered by being silent to injustice...

Speak the truth, do it the right way & most importantly at the right time!


Evil will continue to thrive until inaction gives way to action!

Easter

Easter of 2020 will go down as a very painful one in history due to the pandemic. The amount of lives lost every day due to people succumbing to the virus is alarming! The very first time we hear a high number of deaths, we are startled! However with time, unfortunately we become accustomed to hearing these numbers...
Be reminded that these numbers are actually reported, meaning the deaths are actually more... real humans, real deaths, real losses, real pain..

The pandemic has taught us various lessons.... one being that we are powerless regardless of who we think we are, what we think we have & where we think we are located...

For those of us who are Christians, it reminds us that the arm of flesh will indeed fail us (Jer 17:5) and now more than ever we need to put our confidence in God...



My prayer today is that as the resurrection brought light & hope, may the light of God illuminate our hearts & lives especially in areas where we have experienced so much darkness. May the hope that His resurrection brought, give us hope to live our lives with heaven in view as we realise that we can either become instruments of good or instruments of destruction.

May we realise what truly matters and may we never go back to living our lives the "way we have always been"

We can’t…draw to ourselves more than we think we are worth.’ That means how we see ourselves determines the kind of relationships we establish. Many of us harbour a low sense of self-esteem. We deem everyone else as being more important than ourselves and think meeting their needs is more important than meeting our own needs. We compare ourselves and allow others to determine who we are, and become dependent on their approval to prop up our identity.

But it’s a slap in the face to God to look at another person and say, ‘I wish I were like them.’ God made you for His own purpose, that you might reflect a unique aspect of His glory. As believers in Christ, we’ve been given a new identity as children of God. We weren’t created to live dependently on any other person. Rather, God is restoring us to the image of His Son and making us whole (see 2 Corinthians 3:18). In Him we don’t ever need to be afraid to be who we really are. It’s time to develop a true opinion of yourself based on the truth that God made you exactly, precisely, intricately, wondrously, and uniquely you – a one-of-a-kind creation for which there’s no comparison. The psalmist wrote: ‘You…scheduled each day of my life before I began to breathe…How precious it is, Lord, to realise that you are thinking about me constantly!’ (Psalm 139:16-18 TLB).
