I normally walk past some blind individuals but I must shamefully admit that the thought of how different life must be for them does not really sink in. Probably due to the fact that we are too busy getting involved in our own stuff and ignoring that which constitutes a lifestyle for some. Today however, I had to have an official conversation with an intelligent, articulate middle aged man who went blind at the age of 15 due to a brain tumor. And trust me the 2 hours will remain indelible in my thoughts. As I sat with him, it dawned on me that I was so confused on how to start, but at the end of the 2 hours, the environment felt so different I was laughing and I was so relaxed I asked him so many personal questions even up to his relationships, hahaha! Yea I know curiosity killed the cat, but I am no cat. And even as I led him to his escort, he held my hands which filled me with so much emotions as I imagined being in his shoes.
Lesson of the day, learn to be thankful for the things you have got, regardless of how small you might think they are. And don't get it twisted, LITTLE does not mean INSIGNIFICANT.
Secondly, the worst thing that can happen to a man is not blindness but having eyes and yet not being able to see.
