The Controversial Word-Feminist!!

Its quite amazing how the word FEMINIST sparks so much debate and negativity. However I believe its largely based on peoples perception, In one word I say stereotype. Feminism however is a collection of movements and ideologies aimed at defining, establishing, and defending equal political, economic, and social rights for women. This includes seeking to establish equal opportunities for women in education and employment. A feminist advocates or supports the rights and equality of women. I can remember having a conversation with a group of people, and as I expressed my opinion, one of the men present told me I was feminist. I looked at him like Are you for real?? "I responded by saying, can you actually listen to yourself? If you want to shut me up, say something else but dont just throw words for the sake of it" For me though, be you feminist or a male chauvinist, I dont really care. What matters to me though, is that everyone we come across deserves to be respected regardless of their gender. Also for anyone who works hard, they deserve to be rewarded also regardless of their gender. I am doing a work and researching on the glass ceiling I have discovered widening pay gaps between male and female doing exactly same job which dosent seem right to me. Definitely God created male and female differently for specific reasons, but society has defined masculinity and feminity in ways that are not really holistic. It is seen in the ways in which we are raised, which breed the wrong preconception right from the word go especially in the African culture. For instance why should nourishing ones health be left to the mercy of some other, when girls are trained to cook for men. Ironically though we observe that the best chefs in the world end up being men. However I listened to the smart lady Chimamanda speak, and the reality of her words really kept me thinking and I just had to share. hope you enjoy it. Have any contrary views?? Feel free to share

  1. Women, as human beings, are not lacking in anything at all. I frankly believe that this new-age feminist movement is wrong and orchestrated from the pit of hell to distort the immutable plans of the Creator. We cannot shy away from the reality that the world in which we live was put together by the God, the Creator, and as with our homes on this earth, He has set an order by which things should operate for peace and decency to be attained. I respect Ms. Adichie a lot for the odds she has defied and the crazy strides she's made as a result in using her God-given abilities, but I do not agree with some of her positions, and not at all with the foundation upon which she is laying her principles regarding this feminist issue. Its one thing to speak against the age of ignorance when women were considered second-class citizens, which is what it is - wrong and borne out of ignorance, but then to run a cause that in some ways gives a perception or idea that women are traditionally, and by origin any less human than men is incorrect. The equality of all mankind has never truly (underlined) been in dispute. I underline truly because of my emphasis on truth. Men (we) have just invented ideas to spend our time bickering over non-issues. The issue is not with equality but the confusion lies in the ignorance of the purpose - the reason for the existence (creation) of the male and female gender. Like they say, where purpose is unknown, abuse is inevitable. The place of women in the plan of God is the role of assisting the men - helping the men accomplish the purpose of God on the earth. I will not go into the shapes and forms in which this help can be manifested but before the One who laid down the universal rules of all life and living, neither the helper nor the helped is more (or less) important in personhood.

  2. The prioritization comes from the hierarchical order which flows from the responsibilities laid upon each role, which is the similitude of the divine order. The man under God is to be responsible for his wife and children - speaks of accountability and leadership. The woman and the children also have their roles in accomplishing the "corporate" objective of the home. We see this hierarchy in play in every field of our endeavors and we seem to submit to them and be OK to reporting to say a women at work of for the women, we submit easily and very nicely to the men in leadership over us at work, and have no issues when we (as men and women) have to help our bosses and employers accomplish their overall goals but when it comes to the family, and helping each other thrive in the plan and purpose of our Creator, we all want to grow wings and fly. There must be an order for anything to function. Order does not depict inequality of the personhood but points to roles. As the man is the head of the woman, so also is he responsible for the woman under God. Ever wondered why God did not spare Adam in the punishment for sin even when the woman was deceived first, and took the lead in that? It is because the man is responsible under God for the leadership of his home according to the instructions of God, and he failed in doing that. The family system has struggled since this hierarchy was challenged in Eden and today, the father of all lies is still speaking to women and telling us that there is something wrong with the idea of submission to our own husbands. Women are being asked the age-long question from the devil, the serpent, "did God say." And deceiving us that God knew we would become "wise" when we revolt against His order... we know how that has been working out and how much more unwise we are all becoming as follow in this line of reasoning. We need to go back to the ancient landmarks and build according to plan because any other way outside of the divine order, will continue to lead us to deeper and deeper hellish depths of cruelty and fightings and violence and disunity and brokenness in homes and lives, defeating the very purpose and essence of the family Let God remain true and let every idea and philosophy and ideology and opinions of men, in high and low ranks, remain a lie.
